Ladies - when you’re dating someone, usually “I” turns into “we”. That is a good thing. However when you spend more time focusing on several “we’s” and not enough “I”, that’s when you start to lose yourself.

During breakups it can be very tempting to cling to another person to fill a void. But it’s like putting a band aid on a someone in ICU - a quick fix rather than a cure - you feel that void because there is something inside of you that needs to be fulfilled, and if you don’t ever really work on trying to figure out what YOU can do to fill that void, you’ll get stuck trying to find other partners to fill it (this is starting to sound hilariously sexual).

But what goes wrong is that after a while, maybe a couple of relationships later, you’ll find yourself single again. It’s inevitable. But that same feeling or void will be there. You didn’t fill it with self-guidance and personal growth, you bandaided it with other people. Because you’ve spent the last x amount of years thinking more about “we’s” than “I”, you’re now x amount of years less mature and able to cope with something like a break up.

Imagine being 40, 50, 60 years old and finding yourself unfortunately single for whatever reason - and you’ve spent much of your life finding what makes relationships work instead of learning about yourself and finding what makes YOU work?

Take some time off and try not to let relationships be the focus of your life. Being able to be happy alone is rarer than it should be.

My eye caught a dark form lying on the river bottom. It took me a few moments to comprehend what I had stumbled upon. Lying peacefully in the shallow waters of the river, only a few meters from shore, was a full-grown cougar. The contrast between the serenity of the scene I was witnessing and what must have played out here in the cougar’s final moments made me shiver. It was the first shiver of many, as I stripped down and waded out into the icy water to get this shot. x
